The best part about Scion leaving is that all the brand’s cars can now be optioned up to higher price points! That means more available features and options while retaining the fact that the base models still feel like “real cars.” Let’s have a look at Toyota North America in the year 2017.
Yaris Range
Yaris Hatchback starting at $14,895.
Yaris Sedan (like how its badged in Canada) starting at $15,700.
Corolla Range
The former Scion tC and iM are moved into the Corolla range. This allows their sales to count under the “Corolla” models and cement the popular compact as not only the best selling compact in America, but possibly become the best selling car in America!
Corolla Sedan starting at $17,300.
Corolla Coupe starting at $19,385. (Perhaps an available “tC” trim becoming the Civic “Si” competitor).
Toyota Matrix (Corolla Hatchback) starting at $18,460.
Large Sedan Range
Camry starting at $22,970
Avalon starting at $32,650.
I bet Lexus will stop offering the ES within the next two years by the way.
Sportscar Range
FR-S starting at $25,305. We won’t get GT86 since Toyota obviously wants to use three letter combos on “sports” models. Remember S-FR and C-HR? In fact, the FR-S will become the F-RS.
Whatever BMW are doing with Toyota. Lexus has the LC now but it isn’t a dedicated sportscar, nor will the BMW Z4 successor be. I doubt it will be called a Supra though. More like FT-RS or something.
Utility Range
This C-HR (though different name because too close to HR-V).
RAV-4 starting at $24,350
Highlander starting at $29,765
Sienna starting at $28,850
4Runner starting at $33,810.
The updated version of the Sequoia starting at $44,965. People are spending $50k for a new Sequoia?!
Land Cruiser starting at $83,825
Truck Range
Tacoma starting at $23,300
Tundra starting at $29,950
Prius Range plus Mirai
Prius starting at $24,200.
Prius C starting at $19,560.
Prius V starting at $26,675.
Mirai starting at $57,500. Should call it the Prius Mirai.
There you have it America, your future Toyota lineup. The only thing Toyota America is missing is a convertible. Expect a convertible like the Aqua Air Concept at the top of the post to come at some point towards the end of next year.
Go check out Scion’s site! All the prices are way up!!
*I think they may have gotten rid of the rental specs and are selling discounted, well-equipped models. I’m checking it out now.

The ES outsells every other Lexus model save the RX. I can't see it going anywhere.

I'm currently in a love affair with Toyota so I like this post a lot. I forgot about their BMW partnership which should be cool. I wish they would make lower trim Land Cruisers and a rwd midsize car too but i get why they don't.

Do you know when Scion will actually die and the name changes will happen?

I know, but the branding is becoming off. They can bump the Avalon up to a Platinum trim and move the ES shoppers over to the Avalon Platinum or a Lexus GS350, RX350, NX, or even IS. That will send the Avalon over 100,000 yearly sales even while sedan sales are dropping while making the Toyota flagship sedan an actual flagship. Lexus is then left with all RWD/AWD sedans that all share the same brand philosophy.
Seriously, the fact that my 51-year old, zero car enthiast mother doesn’t want an ES because “it’s not a real Lexus” is telling. She loves her Camry, would buy a new Camry, likes the IS, loves the RX...the ES is going away.

Meh, I’ve just accepted that everything looks odd now.

Fall is what I heard, so just in time to call everything a 2017/2018 model.

I’m betting the 4Runner will either get a luxury “Platinum” trim to supplement that, or/and the new Sequoia (since it will be a truck still) will be nicer inside (it starts at almost almost $50k already). Either way, both models will make an offroad capable range of 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser. That will contrast nicely to the C-HR, RAV4, Highlander, Sienna side.

No way! Are they really getting rid of the car? Did they mean the nameplate (since it will technically be a Corolla). The whole car is gone?! How do they spice up the Corolla while hitting the Civic Coupe and Forte Koup? Are they just going to ignore Honda and Hyundai-Kia? That’s an awful decision! Shame on you Toyota!!

It’s one of the few Japan-only manufactured cars under the Scion umbrella, so it’s remarkably not-profitable. Same dynamics that helped kill the Celica ten years ago, ironically.

I think it will be good for Toyota because it could make them appear less bland and the Scion models will get more attention.

You’re right! The Camry is classified in the Large-Family/Midsize class while the Avalon is in the Large/Fullsize class. I didn’t want to set them apart so I’m calling them “Large Sedans” to make it easier to see the relationship.

Sad. I wonder if something else will come up. Like a Chrysler partnership since the Dart/200 are having issues. Maybe a similar deal as Toyo has with Subie.

All Scion models that become Toyotas will keep their Scion name. So you’ll be able to buy a Toyota iM, Toyota FR-S, or Toyota iA. The xB and tC are being discontinued at the end of this model year.

Yeah, Toyota said that the FR-S, the iM, and the iA will become Toyotas, while the tC will be gone after the 2016 model year.
I like the tC. No backup camera and a lack of practicality are the only draws away from it, though.

I saw that, but I like to have my fun. Still surprised they wouldn’t get the vehicles under larger model nameplates in order to make Yaris and Corolla sales seem far higher at the end of this year and all of 2017. Corolla could easily become the Best Selling Car in America by tossing the tC and iM under the nameplate. Like moving the Jetta Sportswagon to the Golf Sportswagon, or how Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport are combined. Same with Acord Sedan and Coupe, All Civics, Fortes, Elantras, Etc.

I think Toyota has realized the compromise coupe is essentially a dead market, especially as hatches get more US traction. The FR-S was a move away from the compromise coupe to something that delivered more sporting credentials, and it’s handily outselling the Miata even after the refresh.
My guess is that if they try to slot another coupe below the FR-S they’ll stick with something like the S-FR and go balls out...the closest thing to a compromise coupe they’re going to make is a coupe-ish crossover like the CH-R...the Juke has already proven that formula sells.
